FIGHT! 1st Staging rehearsal for New York City Opera's newest show, La Fanciulla Del West
1st day of staging rehearsals for New York City Opera's next production, La Fanciulla Del West began with FIGHT choreography, and it was a rollicking success! This opera is packed with all the Puccini emotions you could possibly ask for and punctuated with just the right amount of brutishness.
Helmed by NYCO's General Director, Michael Capasso, rehearsals began with all of the bravado and captivating energy of the opera itself. Fight choreographer Robert Westley returns, previously for NYCO's Tosca and recently Broadway's A Bronx Tale, to set the action for some of the most exciting stage combat I have seen in years! We begin with a buzz and explode with all of the excitement and humor expected of a western, fists flying and guns blazing.

The first Tutti Coro rehearsal was a blast! It is an absolute delight to return to familiar faces and equally great to meet the newest additions to the NYCO family. Friends represented every show from last season: Tosca's Darren Stokes, Florenzia's Jake Russo, Rafe Terrazi, Aleko/Pagliacci's David Kelleher-Flight & Mario Arevalo, and Candide's Eric McKeever & Peter Kendall Clark to name a few. From supernumeraries to principal soloists, I am consistently amazed by this organization's ability and genuine appreciation for maintaining an incredibly talented roster of seasoned performers while simultaneously encouraging and fostering the development of tomorrow's stars. With that said, it should come as no surprise that Fanciulla is going to be FANTASTIC! So don't miss us! Check back in for the next rehearsal update, and of course...get your tickets here!
